FRANCISCO EL HOMBRE

Social commitment made music

Francisco, el hombre (a name taken from a character in Gabriel García Márquez’s book “One Hundred Years of Solitude”) cries out with his music for unity and hope in society, critical of the oppression of the economic and political powers in Brazil, the band’s home country. Her 2016 debut album contained what is considered an anthem against gender violence ‘Triste, louca ou má ‘, nominated for a Grammy and accumulating 30 million listens on Spotify and 31 million on Youtube. The band Francisco, el hombre is formed by Mexicans Mateo and Sebastián Piracés-Ugarte and Brazilians Juliana Strassacapa, Andrei Martinez Kozyreff and Helena Papini. His message appealing to a Latin American identity has captured the attention of promoters and the public from all over the continent. They have performed at major festivals in Brazil (Rock in Rio or Lollapalooza), Mexico (Vive Latino, Rock por la Vida or Supremo Festival), Chile (Santiago Off), Uruguay, Ecuador, Portugal (Rock in Rio Lisbon). Their music, a mixture of Brazilian and Afro-Latin music traditions with psychedelic punk-rock and electro-punk, is an explosive cocktail at their concerts. The naturalness with which they defend the right to happiness and the freedom of the individual to self-define his or her identity makes the group a reference for the younger generations. After their European tour with ‘Casa Francisco’, they have presented in 2022 the first preview of their next album: Arranca a Cabeça do Rei.
