Born in Mozambique and settled in Portugal, Selma Uamusse explores the musical and lexical roots of her country of origin, combining them with electronics, jazz, soul-funk, Afrobeat, among other genres, creating a unique sound universe. Her voice embraces both the great ladies of soul and the ancestral melodies of her ascendants. Selma Uamusse released her debut album Mati in 2018. Widely praised by national critics, it was presented on various prestigious national and international stages. The album can be heard as two simultaneous journeys – a geographic one, a visit to Mozambique, where the singer collects sounds and shares her identity; and an internal one, on a spiritual map that is discovered as the music infiltrates those who listen. In 2020, she released her second album Liwoningo. This album emphasizes an African identity that continues to inspire lyrics and melodies, but which mixes with the world at large, in themes and arrangements, some closer to folklore tradition, others that wander between electronic, rock, Afro-beat, and experimental. In her own name, Selma Uamusse is much more than a collage of artistic adventures she has lived. Her music is a manifesto for harmony with the world around us, a positive look at the world. A form of struggle and hope for a freer society, with more love. Live in concert, Selma Uamusse radiates an unique and authentic energy, between strength and vulnerability, connecting and empowering her audience and creating magical moments of unity.
