Selma Uamusse is a Mozambican singer based in Portugal who explores the roots of her home country. She uses traditional instruments such as timbila and mbira to generate Mozambican rhythms with lyrics in native languages and combines them with electronics and other cosmopolitan musical references.
Thus Selma creates a unique sound universe. Her voice is an embrace between the great ladies of soul and the ancestral melodies of their ancestors. Her music is a manifesto of harmony with what surrounds us, a positive look at the world. A form of struggle and hope for a freer society, with more love.
Selma Uamusse has performed on the stages of major festivals around the world, among which are: Rock in Rio (Portugal), Vodafone Mexefest (Portugal), FMM Sines (Portugal), Festival MED (Portugal), MiMO Amarante (Portugal), MaMA Paris (France), MMM Maputo (Mozambique), MIL Lisboa (Portugal), SIM São Paulo (Brazil), Back2black Festival Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Siesta Festival Gdansk (Poland), Centro Galego de Arte Contemporânea Santiago de Compostela (Spain) , NY SummerStage in Central Park (USA), Crespo Festival at Circo Voador (Brazil), Festival Atlantico at Philharmonie (Luxembourg) and Akropolis Palace in Prague (Czech Republic).
