AFROSIDERAL

Afrosideral is the project of Cuban artist Kumar, a musical and stage-driven proposal that fuses ancestral percussion, experimental electronics and Afro-Cuban spirituality into a deeply hypnotic sonic experience. With more than twenty years of artistic trajectory both in and outside Cuba, Kumar — now based in Europe — has developed a distinctive language as a lyricist, producer, soundtrack composer and digital percussionist, establishing himself as a singular figure within contemporary Afro-diasporic music.

In Afrosideral, rhythm becomes a vehicle for memory and trance. Mystical, jungle-like percussion dialogues with hypnotic deep house keyboards, samplers, drum machines and spectral spoken-word passages that build into a ceremonial crescendo. The project stems from what the artist calls the Afrocuban Electronic Ensemble, a space where electronics merge with Afro-Cuban essence through rhythms and melodies inspired by the Yoruba legacy. The result is music that looks to the future without breaking its connection to the ancestral past.

His latest work, Filho Do Mar, co-produced with acclaimed producer Nickodemus, is a sonic journey across the Atlantic Ocean linking Africa, Cuba and Brazil. An album of migrations, currents and shared roots, where organic electronics, Afro-Caribbean grooves and spiritual storytelling create an immersive and deeply physical soundscape.

Afrosideral’s live performance is one of its most distinctive strengths: dynamic, artistic, cosmic and ritualistic. Acoustic and electronic instruments coexist within a sonic ecosystem that immerses audiences in a true sensory jungle. Influenced by hip hop, jazz, dub and electronic music, the project retains a strong Afro-Cuban identity that connects with diverse audiences across a wide range of contexts.
