With explosive energy and tropical big band flavor, Los 300 present today, Monday June 30, their new single: a live version of ‘¿Qué le pasa a Lupita?’, the classic immortalized by Pérez Prado in the 50s. This reinterpretation, faithful to his carefree and technically impeccable style, is also a vibrant tribute to the mambo king and the theatricality that made this song an intergenerational anthem.

Known for building their music based on loops in real time, Los 300 take this premise to the limit in this live session in which they demonstrate, once again, their instrumental mastery and their ability to raise a party with only three musicians on stage. The track is accompanied by a live video that not only amplifies the experience, but also allows you to see up close the mastery of these three multi-instrumentalists assembling layers of sound with surgical precision… and a lot of groove.

The version of “¿Qué le pasa a Lupita?” retains the surreal and festive spirit of the original, but sounds as current as ever. With fresh arrangements, powerful stage delivery and the band’s unmistakable personality, Los 300 turn a classic mambo into a funk-tropical descarga ready to explode on any dance floor.

This song has been part of Los 300 ‘s live repertoire since the band’s beginnings, more than a decade ago. However, they had never before recorded their particular approach to this mambo classic, which has been one of the most celebrated moments in their concerts. Now, at last, they share this version of their own – full of humor, rhythm and respect for the original – in audiovisual format, doing justice to a piece that is part of their history as a group.

The 300: the kings of loop-jazz

Los 300 is a trio from Granada formed by Manuel Collados (guitar, bass and vocals), Zeque Olmo (percussion and keyboards) and Jimi García (winds and electropad), three musicians also members of Eskorzo, with more than 25 years of experience in the Spanish and international music scene.

Since its creation in 2013, the group has established itself as a benchmark of loop-jazz, with a unique style that combines jazz, black music, Latin rhythms and organic electronics. His proposal stands out for building, layer by layer and in real time, songs that sound as if they were played by a big band, even though there are only three people on stage.

Their surprising and didactic staging, in which they explain how they create their songs based on loops, has taken them to stages all over the peninsula and festivals such as Imagina Funk, Sonidos Líquidos, Weekend Beach, Womad, Slap!, Iboga or Monkey Week. They have also collaborated with artists such as Quantic, Seun Kuti, Macaco or Selma Uamusse.

Track record and awards

Among its latest milestones are the following:

– Third best national album of 2022 (MondoSonoro – World Music category).

– Clinton Awards Band of the Year Nomination (Enlace Funk)

– Official tune of ‘Las mañanas de Pepa Fernández’ (RNE1) and Dancefloorama (Radio 3).

– Guests on tour by Quantic and Seun Kuti

– Participation in the Repúblicafrobeat Vol. 6 compilation.

With three studio albums released and a new EP on the way, Los 300 continue to prove that creativity, virtuosity and humor are not incompatible with the dance floor.
